Football Italia July update – Holidays, the Ronaldo effect, and a new website

The Football Italia team one by one begin to go on their holidays this month, taking advantage of the three weeks in the year without football, getting refreshed for what is shaping up to be the best Serie A season in recent years. The editorial team of Susy Campanale, Gaby McKay, Livio Caferoglu and Richard Thomas deserve a break – and we’ve even managed to pursuade Susy to take a few weeks off for the first time we can remember!

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus has led to a huge increase in interest in Italian football. Serie A is again being discussed in the mainstream media in the UK, and a discussion on our Facebook page gave the consensus among Football Italia fans that his move to Italy was pretty much great for all involved in Italian football.

In what might be one of the best timed deals in history, Eleven Sports have also secured the rights to Serie A in the UK over BT Sport, and are set to launch two channels, plus an online streaming service. They should also benefit from this increased interest.

We can also reveal that I (Tim Doel), Rob Paton and Andrew Tuft, have been working on something very exciting in recent months – we aim to launch a brand new redesigned website for Football Italia this autumn! It’s been some eight years since the last redesign, and the new site should resolve a few bugs we’ve had lately, and vastly improve the user experience for our loyal fans.

We’re working with Tyneside web developers Digital Yak, along with our tech guru Dave McMurray. If you want to be the first to see the Beta version and provide us with your feedback, send us an email to tim(at) and we’ll stick you on the list.
